A cookie is a small piece of text a website asks your browser to store. MyKidIsBad.com uses two kinds of cookies: first-party cookies set directly by this site, and, only if you choose "Accept all," Meta's advertising pixel (described below):
The two cookies we use
- Login session (
mkb.sid) — strictly necessary. Keeps you signed in to your account as you move between pages. Set only if you register or log in; expires after 8 hours of inactivity or when you log out. There's no way to opt out of this one and still stay signed in, since it's what makes "signed in" work at all. - Analytics visitor ID (
visitor_id) — not strictly necessary, so you can switch it off: choose “Necessary only” in the cookie banner (or send a Global Privacy Control / Do Not Track signal) and it is not used. Otherwise it is set when you visit. A random identifier used only for our own self-hosted, first-party analytics: which pages get visited, where visitors click, how far they scroll, how long they stay and which page they go to next, so we can improve the site. We never record what you type, passwords or payment details, and inside your signed-in member area we do not record the text of links. Never sold, never shared with an ad network. This is the cookie the banner asks about, and it's only ever set after you choose "Accept all." Choosing "Necessary only" means this cookie is never set, and any copy already on your device is cleared.
We also set a small cc_consent / cc_analytics pair to remember your choice itself — strictly necessary (there's no way to remember "don't track me" without storing that preference somewhere), and never used for anything beyond that.
Referral cookie (mkb_ref) — set only when you arrive through a member's invite link. It remembers who invited you for up to 90 days so they can be thanked if you join. It holds only their public invite code and the share channel (like "fb"). It is used for nothing else and is never shared. If you do not want it, clear your cookies or just visit the site directly.
Anonymous visit counting (no cookie). Separately from the cookies above, we count how many people visit each day and which page and source (for example an ad or a link) they came from. This uses no cookie and stores no IP address: it keeps only a one-way code that changes every day, so no one can be recognised or followed from one day to the next. It is turned off if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal.
If you accept analytics, a tiny first-party counter (/px) also records a few page events such as "viewed the free-month page" against your random visitor ID. It never leaves this site.
If you're signed in as an Academy member, that's it — no other cookies.
Meta Pixel (advertising) — only if you accept
If you click "Accept all," we load the Meta (Facebook/Instagram) Pixel on our public pages (the home page, quiz, guides and sign-up pages). Meta may set its own cookies (such as _fbp) and receives the page you viewed and basic browser information, so we can measure how our ads perform and show our ads to people who visited. We do not load it if you choose "Necessary only," if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, or inside the admin area or your signed-in member dashboard, and we never send your child's name or quiz answers to Meta. To change your mind, use "Cookie Preferences" in the footer, then clear Facebook cookies in your browser; you can also manage ad settings in your Facebook account. Meta's use of that data is described in Meta's Privacy Policy.
Changing your choice
Click "Cookie Preferences" in the footer of any page at any time to reopen the banner and change your choice. You can also block or delete cookies entirely from your browser's own settings, though doing so will sign you out of your account.
