Screen time ends in tears
Problem: Turning off the tablet starts a meltdown.
Hack: Give a 5-minute and a 1-minute warning with a kitchen timer, and let your child press the "stop" button themselves. End on a natural pause like finishing a level, and name what comes next: "Then it's snack time."
ScreensHard to unplug at dinner
Problem: Everyone is on a device at the table.
Hack: Put a "phone basket" by the door. Everyone drops their device in it on arrival, adults included. It works as a family game rather than a rule for the kids.
ScreensTablet on every trip
Problem: Quiet means a tablet in the car.
Hack: Make a "car bag" of screen-free surprises: a mini-notebook, stickers, a magnetic game, audiobooks. Wrap them for novelty. Keep the bag only for the car, and it stays exciting.
ScreensFight over screen rules
Problem: Rules change every day and the kids notice.
Hack: Write a simple "screen menu": which shows or games are okay, when, and for how long, and post it on the fridge. The menu is the boss, so you are not the bad guy.
