Alex's story: Riding the school bus

First, then...

  1. Wait
  2. Bus comes
  3. Get on
  4. Find a seat
  5. The ride
  6. Get off

Calm-down toolbox

  • You can wear headphones if allowed.
  • You can look out the window and count things.
  • You can hold a favorite small object.
  • You can sit near the front near the driver.

Tips for reading it

Read it together 2 to 3 times a day for several days before the event, in a calm moment (not right before it, and never as a surprise). Read it once more the morning of.

  • Ask the driver to meet your child, and see whether a calm seat near the front is possible.
  • Practice waiting at the stop and stepping on the bus before the first real ride.
  • Check the real details with the place or person (what will really happen, how long it takes) and edit the story to match.

Story Studio writes a draft for you to review and change. It is not medical or therapy advice. Check real details (who, where, when) and adjust anything that does not fit your child. If something about a procedure is unclear, ask the provider.
