Alex's story: When I hear no

First, then...

  1. No happens
  2. Why
  3. Feelings
  4. Calm body
  5. Ask
  6. Move on

Calm-down toolbox

  • You can ask for a "yes later" option.
  • You can take slow breaths.
  • You can say "okay" and move on.
  • You can use a calm-down corner.

Tips for reading it

Read it together 2 to 3 times a day for several days before the event, in a calm moment (not right before it, and never as a surprise). Read it once more the morning of.

  • Offer choices (two yeses) before no when possible.
  • Keep your no short and kind; avoid long explanations while upset.
  • Check the real details with the place or person (what will really happen, how long it takes) and edit the story to match.

Story Studio writes a draft for you to review and change. It is not medical or therapy advice. Check real details (who, where, when) and adjust anything that does not fit your child. If something about a procedure is unclear, ask the provider.
