Alex's story: Waiting and taking turns

First, then...

  1. Everyone wants it
  2. Turns
  3. Waiting is hard
  4. While I wait
  5. My turn comes
  6. Handing over

Calm-down toolbox

  • You can count to ten slowly.
  • You can ask "May I have a turn next?".
  • You can pick another activity while waiting.
  • You can use a sand timer or visual timer.

Tips for reading it

Read it together 2 to 3 times a day for several days before the event, in a calm moment (not right before it, and never as a surprise). Read it once more the morning of.

  • Use a visual or sand timer so waiting has an end you can see.
  • Practice turn-taking at home with a simple board game and praise the waiting.
  • Check the real details with the place or person (what will really happen, how long it takes) and edit the story to match.

Story Studio writes a draft for you to review and change. It is not medical or therapy advice. Check real details (who, where, when) and adjust anything that does not fit your child. If something about a procedure is unclear, ask the provider.
