Alex's story: When plans change

First, then...

  2. Plans can change
  3. Feelings
  4. Asking
  5. New plan
  6. Calm

Calm-down toolbox

  • You can ask "What is the new plan?".
  • You can take three breaths.
  • You can look at the new schedule.
  • You can choose a calm activity.

Tips for reading it

Read it together 2 to 3 times a day for several days before the event, in a calm moment (not right before it, and never as a surprise). Read it once more the morning of.

  • Add a "surprise" or "change" card to your visual schedule so changes become part of the routine.
  • When you can, give advance notice and say what stays the same.
  • Check the real details with the place or person (what will really happen, how long it takes) and edit the story to match.

Story Studio writes a draft for you to review and change. It is not medical or therapy advice. Check real details (who, where, when) and adjust anything that does not fit your child. If something about a procedure is unclear, ask the provider.
