First, then...

  1. What it is
  2. Feelings
  3. Quiet
  4. Sit and listen
  5. Hugs

Calm-down toolbox

  • You can bring a comfort item.
  • You can sit near a grown-up.
  • You can step out when needed.
  • You can draw a memory.

Tips for reading it

Read it together 2 to 3 times a day for several days before the event, in a calm moment (not right before it, and never as a surprise). Read it once more the morning of.

  • Explain death honestly with simple words; avoid phrases like "went to sleep".
  • Give a role if wanted, such as drawing a card.
  • Check the real details with the place or person (what will really happen, how long it takes) and edit the story to match.

Story Studio writes a draft for you to review and change. It is not medical or therapy advice. Check real details (who, where, when) and adjust anything that does not fit your child. If something about a procedure is unclear, ask the provider.
