Alex's story: First day at a new school

First, then...

  1. Morning
  2. Arrive
  3. Meet the teacher
  4. Find my spot
  5. Class time
  6. Break and lunch
  7. Going home

Calm-down toolbox

  • You can find the teacher and say "I need help".
  • You can take three slow breaths.
  • You can look at a small comfort picture from home.
  • You can ask for a quiet spot.

Tips for reading it

Read it together 2 to 3 times a day for several days before the event, in a calm moment (not right before it, and never as a surprise). Read it once more the morning of.

  • Visit the school beforehand if you can, walk the route, and take a photo of the teacher and classroom.
  • Write a tiny goodbye routine (hug, high five, "see you after school") and use it every time.
  • Check the real details with the place or person (what will really happen, how long it takes) and edit the story to match.

Story Studio writes a draft for you to review and change. It is not medical or therapy advice. Check real details (who, where, when) and adjust anything that does not fit your child. If something about a procedure is unclear, ask the provider.
