Calm-down toolbox

  • You can cover your ears or wear ear defenders.
  • You can stay near the teacher and hold a buddy's hand.
  • You can take slow breaths while walking.
  • You can ask the teacher what is next.

Tips for reading it

Read it together 2 to 3 times a day for several days before the event, in a calm moment (not right before it, and never as a surprise). Read it once more the morning of.

  • Ask the school for the drill schedule so your child gets a warning, and for earmuffs or earplugs during drills.
  • Practice a fire drill at home with the same steps and a gentle alarm sound.
  • Check the real details with the place or person (what will really happen, how long it takes) and edit the story to match.

Story Studio writes a draft for you to review and change. It is not medical or therapy advice. Check real details (who, where, when) and adjust anything that does not fit your child. If something about a procedure is unclear, ask the provider.
