Alex's story: Flying on an airplane

First, then...

  1. Airport
  2. Security
  3. Waiting
  4. Board the plane
  5. Buckle up
  6. Take off
  7. In the air
  8. Landing

Calm-down toolbox

  • You can wear headphones.
  • You can chew gum or sip water at take-off and landing.
  • You can bring a favorite activity.
  • You can hold a grown-up's hand.

Tips for reading it

Read it together 2 to 3 times a day for several days before the event, in a calm moment (not right before it, and never as a surprise). Read it once more the morning of.

  • Many airports offer a practice walk-through for kids with sensory needs; ask the airline about special assistance.
  • Pack snacks, headphones, a comfort item, and new small activities for the plane.
  • Check the real details with the place or person (what will really happen, how long it takes) and edit the story to match.

Story Studio writes a draft for you to review and change. It is not medical or therapy advice. Check real details (who, where, when) and adjust anything that does not fit your child. If something about a procedure is unclear, ask the provider.
